It gives me immense pleasure to present the 4th year Annual Report and audited statement of the College of Social Work for the financial year 2009 to 2013. The development of the College during the year has been encouraging and remarkable. The Association of Professional Social Workers and its members continue to extend their leadership and valuable support to the Institute for the activities undertaken. The faculty inputs have continued to enhance the visibility of the College in the sphere of social work education. The institute is thankful to all the donors, supporters, and all the well-wishers, who have always been a source of inspiration and contributing to enhance the worth of the institute.
College of Social Work was established in the year 2008. It is located at Changangei Ucheckon, Airport road, Imphal, Manipur. It is affiliated to Manipur University under vide No. MU/2-7/2008/CDC/461 dt. 6/2/2009. The college offer three years degree course in Bachelor of Social Work (BSW). The college is run under the aegis of the Association of Professional Social Worker, Manipur. College of Social work will be affiliated to the Association of Schools of Social Work in India and the Asian Pacific Association of Social Work Education. In course of time the School will also be affiliated to the International Association of Schoolof Social Work.
The Association of Professional Social Workers (APSW) was formed initially by 30 members who are Master degree holders in Social Work from different universities with a view of transferring and skills of Social Work to the people and proper implementation of the knowledge. The Association was registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 in the year 1982 and started functioning gradually since then. By the year 2008, APSW intensifies its function in the field of welfare of the aged, women and children, drug addict and training for developmental workers under the financial assistance of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. APSW is a recognised institution by the Central and State Government.
The Social Work Programme is a generic programme. It is introduced to fulfill the needs of the nation by training more professional social workers who are capable of providing all types of welfare services as well as social development in India.
Definition of social work- “The social work profession promotes social change, problem solving in human relationships and the empowerment and liberation of people to enhance well-being. Utilising theories of human behaviour and social systems, social work intervenes at the points where people interact with their environments. Principles of human rights and social justice are fundamental to social work.”
The programme equips students with the essential knowledge, philosophy and skills for responsible practices in the profession of social work. It enables students to experience direct practices in social work agencies through the various practicum schedules in the course structure. Social work graduates are expected to put into practices the knowledge, principle/values and skills as well as methods that they learnt in the course as professional social workers, administrator and developmental workers.The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) programme aims to build commitment and competency in facilitating participatory change in transformation at the level of individual, groups and communities through Government and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
A noteworthy contribution of professional faculties, their continued efforts towards academic excellence and organizational development has served enhance the quality of professional interventions in the social sector.
The CSW continues its activities which covered many fold projects like training programme for the capacity building of the Anganwadi Workers supported by Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur. I on the behalf of the Governing Body of CSW to place on record our thanks to Vice Chancellor of past & present and officials of University of Manipur, for their support in our quality enhancement efforts.
Once again I take this opportunity to place on record my deep sense of appreciation to our APSW team, all the Managing Committee members, well-wishers and members of the College, the students and faculties for their continued support to see the light of the day.
